What is a Giclee?

Giclee is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions and capturing the true essence of an original painting. Giclee is a French term meaning “spray of ink”. In the giclee process, a fine stream of ink (more than 4 million droplets per second) is sprayed onto paper or canvas.

Displaying a full color spectrum and providing luminosity and brilliance that represent the artist’s original work, giclee prints have gained wide acceptance from major institutions such as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Chicago Art Institute, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The giclee prints that are reproduced on canvas are mounted on standard size stretcher bars as an original oil would be and ready for framing. Canvas is used to provide the most accurate original oil image.
